Join us for a unique hybrid event, the Strings Course and Recording Session with Strings, taking place both in person at the Foundry Studio, Thessaloniki, Greece, and online. Starting March 7, 2026, and running until April 5, 2026, this event offers an unparalleled opportunity to enhance your skills and experience.

What's Included?

This hybrid event offers three options:

Attend four classes on the art and craft of writing for the string family. Composers studied will include J.Williams, B.Herrmann, M. Levy, I. Stravinsky, A. Desplat and L. Bernstein.
- I’ll give you detailed, personalized feedback on your progress.
- A complimentary copy of my Focus on the Strings ebook.
- All classes will be recorded, so if you can’t make it live, you can catch up later.
Optional live recording session with a nine-piece string section.
- Instrumentation is 2 1st violins, 2 2nd violins, 2 violas, 2 celli, 1 bass
- The ensemble is a professional group from Greece: https://bullstrings.com/
- Composition of two minute maximum length for the session.
- Via remote recording or attend in person.
- Receive personalized feedback during a one-on-one meeting.
- Have me as your conductor in Thessaloniki.
You can also choose to participate with only the recording session, not the classes.

About the Instructor:

Dr. Norman Ludwin is a leading specialist in orchestration and film composition. He serves as a faculty member at the UCLA Extension Film Scoring Certificate Program, the European Academy of Film Composition, and ThinkSpace Education.

His impressive orchestration credits include notable films such as Jurassic World, Inside Out, Star Trek Into Darkness, Super-8, John Carter, and Priest. In addition, Dr. Ludwin has contributed his talent as a double bass player to over 210 films and TV shows.

As an accomplished author, he has written 13 books on orchestration and film composition, covering subjects like "Modern Harmony," "Developing Variation," and "Anthology of Film Music."

Dr. Ludwin has conducted seminars at esteemed institutions worldwide, including the S.Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, Madrid Conservatory of Music, Prague Conservatory of Music, Munich Hochschule, Zurich School of the Arts, and many others. He has also shared his expertise at various locations such as New York City, Los Angeles, Toronto, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco, and Washington DC, sponsored by the American Federation of Local Musicians.
