Two Block Diet

This is for you if you'd like to bring people in your neighbourhood together.

No knowledge of gardening required!

All that's needed is a willingness to invite others into an experiment: How can we help each other grow more food?

Why?

For you, it might because you know homegrown vegetables and fruits taste unbelievably delicious.

Or because growing food allows your money to go to other things.

Or because increasing local food security and community connectedness are crucial to our our resilience in the face of climate change.

Whatever your reason(s), the odds are great that there are others in your immediate neighbourhood who want to grow more food and to be more connected.

This workshop will share stories from the first Two Block Diet group founded in 2009 and all the wonderful benefits from how things unfolded. We'll explore how to invite people, what a first meeting might look like, the power of work parties, and helpful guiding principles for unleashing wonderful things with near neighbours.

And we'll explore simple ways to help groups work together well.

The intention is that we also create systems of mutual support -- a cohort of people who can share learnings and be buddies for each other.

Kate Sutherland & Amber Gould

Kate Sutherland is a community and organizational development consultant who specializes in custom design and facilitation of game-changing processes for organizations, programs and communities. She has worked on food and food security related projects for BC Assn of Farmers' Markets, Putting Children First (Sea to Sky Corridor), the City of Vancouver’s Food Policy Council, the BC Healthy Food and Beverage program, Certified Organic Associations of BC (COABC) and Environment Canada. She is co-founder of the Two Block Diet, a grassroots group where neighbours help each other to grow more food. She is also the author of We Can Do This!: 10 Tools to Unleash Our Collective Genius.

Amber Gould is a dynamic creative who centers the practice of Active Hope. As a certified Intentional Creativity Teacher and Red Thread Guide, she has integrated experience as a group facilitator and workshop host. Amber has a deep dedication to regenerative land-based lifeways, and living in service to the Sacred. Genuine and present with a dedication to nurturing connections, Amber is a believer, beyond all reason, in the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible, and that we all have a role to play in creating that world, one conscious, compassionate and audacious act at a time.
