The router is one of the most powerful, versatile, and misunderstood tools in the woodworking shop. In this seminar, Vic pulls back the curtain on what the router actually does best and how to use it with confidence instead of crossed fingers.

Whether you’re new to routers or you’ve been using one for years while quietly hoping nothing goes wrong, this session will give you practical, repeatable techniques you can take straight to the shop. We’ll cover edge profiling, clean and accurate dados, bit selection that actually makes sense, and smart setups that reduce tear-out, chatter, and those heart-stopping “router roulette” moments.

This is not a lecture full of theory or brand hype. It’s real-world woodworking: how to choose the right bit, how to control the cut, and how to get consistent results without overthinking it. Along the way, Vic will share hard-earned lessons, common mistakes to avoid, and simple habits that make routers safer, quieter, and far more predictable.

Expect clear demonstrations, honest advice, and plenty of time for questions. If you want to

What you can expect:

Location: The Wood Shed - 2932 Thompson Rd, Smithville

Seminar begins at 10:00am, so please arrive by 9:45am. The seminar will take place in the back of the main warehouse.

You will receive a folder, graph note pad, and a pencil for taking notes.

Vic will be available after the seminar for questions.

A bit about our speaker, Vic Tesolin

Vic Tesolin is a woodworker, teacher, and writer whose path to furniture making was anything but direct. After 14 years in the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, he trained at Rosewood Studio under leading North American furniture makers, later staying on as an instructor and craftsman-in-residence while building commissioned work.

Vic has worked across the woodworking industry as Editor of Canadian Woodworking & Home Improvement Magazine and as a Woodworking Advisor at Lee Valley Tools, where he helped develop tools and taught at shows and events worldwide.

Today, Vic runs Vic Tesolin Woodworks, a small teaching business focused on practical skill-building rather than tool collecting. He offers private, one-on-one instruction, in person and online, helping woodworkers build confidence and better results with what they already own.

He also shares his knowledge through writing, podcasts, and demonstrations. Vic writes for Fine Woodworking, co-hosts the FWW Shop Talk Live podcast, and is the author of The Minimalist Woodworker and Projects from the Minimalist Woodworker, books focused on doing quality work in small spaces with essential tools.
