From Biofuels to Biostims: SixRing’s Journey to Commercialization

There is much that is novel about SixRing technology, but what isn’t novel is the challenge faced by bio-industrial technology developers across the landscape. These include raising risk capital for a first-of-kind scaled facility, navigating a complex and dynamic policy environment, securing product offtakes (especially in a conservative Canadian market), and ultimately emerging through the technology valley of death to commercial sustainability and societal impact. SixRing is well on its way to final stages of this roller coaster journey, with characteristic twists and turns. Hear about SixRing’s path from oil & gas, to biofuels and biochems, and ultimately to unique and high performance crop biostimulants as a means to enter the realm of commercial viability and future growth.

Ronn Hoffmann

Ron Hoffmann joined Calgary-based SixRing Inc in 2021 after more than 35 years of leadership positions in Canada’s diplomatic service, and federal and provincial governments.

As a Canadian diplomat Ron has served in six countries spanning four continents, as well as various senior positions at headquarters. Ambassadorial appointments included Afghanistan at the height of Canada’s engagement, and from 2009-2012 to Thailand with cross accreditation to Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos. Other postings were to London, Beijing, Johannesburg and The Hague.

From 2014-2021 Ron served as Alberta’s Senior Representative to Asia based in Hong Kong, and then as Interim CEO of Invest Alberta Corp.

Ron held the role of Vice Chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong from 2015-2019, and now serves on the Governing Bodies of the Global Energy Show (GES), and the Canadian Clean Fuels Summit. He is co-chair of the Canada-ASEAN Sustainable Energy Working Group, announced in July of 2025.

SixRing Inc.

SixRing is a Calgary-based bio-industrial technology company with its roots in sustainable chemicals for the oil & gas sector. Over half a dozen years ago it sharpened its focus to developing and commercializing its made-in-Alberta patented biomass delignification process, uniquely operating at ambient temperature and pressure, to produce a range of sustainable nature-based products - from second generation biofuels and biochems, to bio-materials, and more recently to unique plant performance molecules for agricultural crops, lawns and gardens. Each product pathway originates in the core delignification platform that converts all constituent parts of the low value and waste lignocellulosic biomass to usable properties.
