This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the devastating consequences of this weapons of mass destruction resulted in over 200, 000 deaths and launched the world into the nuclear age. As the nuclear weapons threat continues, communities Canada-wide are participating in events to commemorate the 1945 atomic bombings and educate on the ongoing risk of nuclear weapons, including public showings of a poster exhibition created by the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. We gather annually to remember people whose lives were lost in August 1945, to remember the survivors whose lives were unalterably damaged, and to reaffirm our commitment to the abolition all nuclear weapons.

Please join us for our annual Lanterns for Peace ceremony. Beginning at 7:30 pm we paint lanterns and make origami cranes.
